Andreas Mattern was born in Schwerin/Germany, 1963.
Since graduating from the School of Graphic Design Schwerin in 1986 he has been painting which is his passion. He specialises in colour etchings. Now he is a fulltime artist who lives in Berlin and works from his studio. He has been painting with watercolours for years and became an artist who has developed a style known for its masterful balance of spontaneity and control of the watercolour brush. The act of painting, he begins without preliminary drawing, and without a given contour. He says: “The Confrontation with reality and my own sense of colour and shapes often
create a tightrope between abstraction and representation of the subject.” His motto: Vivid is more important than accurate. Andreas is fascinated by the experience of the city as an urban landscape. He loves to catch the feeling and the diversity of voices of a city when working directly in situ. So, the main characteristic of his work is architecture and landscape.
